Jack Rosen, Chairman of the American Council for World Jewry, has been engaged in discussions with local leaders in Ukraine about the tensions with Russia. Recently, he spoke with Vitali Klitschko, the Mayor of Kyiv, whom he met in Israel during the 2019 International Mayors Conference co-organized by the Council.
After his call with Mayor Klitschko, Chairman Rosen stated:
“It is very important for me personally, but also for everyone here in the United States, to learn directly from the Ukrainian leaders about the developing situation. I want to thank my friend Vitali for sharing his viewpoint at this delicate moment. Kyiv is not only the capital and largest city in Ukraine, but it is also where the largest Jewish community is concentrated in the country. I reiterated with Mayor Klitschko our hope that the situation will de-escalate and that both parties will engage with each other, with the facilitation and support of the United States and European allies, to find a diplomatic solution to the current crisis.”
